Dark- N- Light by Charsya Paul
Story......Before you read my rant as I was reading this thing, I’ll give you what I got from it...... Two alien princesses come to earth for school or something. When landing they meet two guys that just so happen to be a samurai and one an alien as well. They start fighting and after the alien ladies win the random battle, it cuts to an evil school principle that tells his children to get those alien princesses to trust them. The evil school principle needs to give them to an evil space lady. From there on in, drama, battles and other random characters that show up in pairs happens.
Okay here’s the part where I go a little wild going though reading the story.
The whole dream thing? Been there and done that. But this time it felt like a nightmare for real. I didn't know what is going on in those last few pages of the dream thing. Maybe it will get better....And how in the world are those two lady people, sisters? Space magic? Magic? half sister magic??? What's this? No way! "Imooto"? I do hope the author knows to change this to "Sister" since some people don't know what an "Imooto"is. It's just getting more and more confusing. D: On this subject of things the "Japanese way" It's not indicated when reading online that is it read left to right. Just a word of warning if you chose to read this.(Why the Japanese words and not read the Japanese way??? ) The "Imooto" character sure has all the best luck in the world doesn’t she? Re-dreams things, hasn't seen her bother in years, a princess of only God knows what, She's going to start a new life on earth, and oh yeah, it's her birthday, lets not forget she'll be growing her new cat ears and tale in on her birthday guys........Are you in love with the story yet?....Moving on.....On to some random guys that have a troubled past and look like samurai. These battle senses and panels, are traced from How to draw manga:Illustrating battles sadly. There's also a talking Nintales that informs the sisters they have school in the morning.~ Why not at this point? x_x remember those random dudes? Me either, one of them is on the run from.....something that is from space as well. Everything is cleaning up well. Wait for it.....And you guessed it, those random guys also have fallen in love at first sight. How lovely. I love how both the "Imooto" character and one of the random dudes seem to kind of almost know each other but not really. Why are they fighting again? Is there a reason? Why don't those alien ladies just let them go? Are they that important? I'm not to sure this was thought all the way though. Wait a whoa! They finally explain what "Onee-chan" and "hai" means. Only that it's so far off from when those words were first used it's kind of insulting. Oh, hey, there's bad guy business dude behind a desk with a magical orb that gets calls to a another random character in a cloak. Can you smell the real plot yet? This was only a part of vol 1...As for vol 2 I shall say only this....It's just more of vol 1 but with school uniforms and more characters that come in pairs.......AND in a school!
Art..... I can not tell you what's wrong with the art, because you probably see it too. Yes, on the first page we have a poorly pixilated moon That is see though. It's only the first page, we will let it slide, right guys?. ....The line weight, never changes. @_@ ....At all....That is must be just a style chose, right guys????..... The tones used look so clunky, chunky and over used. @o@;;; It, must be the style she is going for, it just has to be. THE WORD BUBBLES!!!!!!! No going around it, they are just poorly made and placed. x__x Some were drawn out and other times they are transparent. Make up your mind. As for character design, it looks like they are trying to hard to make you believe they are anime and manga looking. In other words, it's lacking a lot of creativity. I'll give them a plus for not being in a school setting in school uniforms.......nvm..... Check that off the list please. Lets not forget how inconsistent some of the characters look. In some of the battle scenes were eye balled or traced over traced from a How to draw manga:Illustrating battles sadly. Here are some examples here and here. Forgot to mention, the panels aren't clean in some places. I weep for all the unclean panels. There is also a page in here that is scanned in wrong. Now, when I mean wrong, like, you can see the some of the scanner.....I'll leave it to you to find it.
Book itself.... As far as the covers go it looks poorly designed, Not to be mean, but it looks like something I would look at along side a Christopher Hart "how too" book just so I can giggle at what's wrong with it. But really, the covers are a little worse then a "how to manga" cover. How is that.*cough* the random 3d-ish effect on the boarders(?) and title. Not to mention the thing that takes up just about more space then the characters them selves, the circle gradient thing. Why is this here? I will most likely NEVER know. Enough about vol 1s cover, for vol 2..... It's almost the opposite, like, the characters are TOO close that they want to come out of the cover and do God knows what. @_@ Though, I will call this a plus from the first cover, objects and characters don't seem too missed placed.
Pros......As a self-publisher one to another, I'll give the author mad love for getting her creation out there. It takes a lot for anyone to get out a creations out there to the world. It also takes a lot of drive and money on top of that. She has guts and I approve of her, her book, and her crazy clich'e world. She also gave credit for the brushed she used in her book. So please keep in mind when reading or flippen though the author is a person that ment well. @_@/ But really, I kind of enjoyed my mind being screwed over with "wtf WHY?!" story and art. This is sad to say one of those "it's so bad it's good" kind of things.Really, she did her job to tell a story that was entreating, might not be for the reason she may have wanted, but I can't say I didn't enjoy pulling my hair out over every unclean panel and cliché events.
Cons.... And here's where I can write a novel on, but I won't. There's just too many things wrong with it. The most not good-ish thing I can think about this book is that it uses too many clichés in only so few pages. Also there is a MASS amount of Mary sue in this. This made it OH SO HARD to care for any of the characters.
Where to find this manga…… Her store is not yet open on her main site so I will appoint you to Amazon. And to read the chapter preview you can read it up on her SmackJeeves account. Please support her manga. ^__^/
